Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be a graduating senior from a high school or homeschool program located in the Arts Alive service areas of the Town of West Point, and the counties of King William, New Kent, and King and Queen.

Arts Alive offers merit-based scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors in our service area.  The Andy Conklin Visual Arts Scholarship and the C. Herbert Brown, Jr. Performing Arts Scholarships are awarded each May.

Applicants must be planning to attend an undergraduate program or an associate’s degree program at a college, university, conservatory, or community college where the applicant plans to pursue a performing arts related career.

C. Herbert Brown, Jr. Performing Arts Scholarship

The C. Herbert Brown, Jr. Performing Arts Scholarship Program was established to help graduating high school seniors from the Arts Alive service areas of the Town of West Point, and the counties of King William, New Kent, and King and Queen who wish to pursue a performing arts related career. The performing arts include music (including voice), dance, or theatre.

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT:
Arts Alive will award two scholarships for $1,000 each to a student enrolled in an accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year as a full-time student taking 12 credit hours or more. One scholarship will be awarded in music (includes voice or instrumental) and one awarded in performance (includes dance or theatre). The scholarship may not exceed the cost of education billed by the school. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the educational institution, and must be used in the year in which it is granted.
 

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Applicants must be planning to pursue a performing arts related career at a college or university, as well as have exhibited talent and passion for the performing arts during high school to apply. Applicants will be evaluated on the following categories:

  • Application

  • Personal statement

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Performance Video

Andy Conklin Visual Arts Scholarship

The C. Herbert Brown, Jr. Performing Arts Scholarship Program was established to help graduating high school seniors from the Arts Alive service areas of the Town of West Point, and the counties of King William, New Kent, and King and Queen who wish to pursue a performing arts related career. The performing arts include music (including voice), dance, or theatre.

Applicants must be planning to pursue a visual arts-related career at a college or university, along with exhibiting talent and passion for the visual arts during high school to apply. Applicants will be evaluated on the following categories:

  • Application

  • Personal statement

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Quality of art samples submitted

Dr. Shirley Carter Olsson -Recurring Scholarship

Award Amount: $500 in the second year during college career, open to prior year recipients of the C. Herbert Brown, Jr. Performing Arts Scholarship or the Andy Conklin Visual Arts Scholarship.​
