WEST WIND BRASS  

 

Frank Glasson, trumpet, grew up in San Diego, where he began studying the trumpet at age nine. He has performed both locally and abroad in the trumpet sections of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Opera, Deutsches Rundfunk Orchester of Germany, Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, State Theater Orchestra and National Chamber Orchestra of South Africa. He has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, among others the La Jolla Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his many duties, Frank Glasson serves currently as Jazz Band Director at Palomar College and conductor of the Civic Youth Wind Ensemble.

 John Wilds, trumpet, is a native of Seattle, Washington. He received his earliest musical training from his father on the highland bagpipes. Later Mr. Wilds' musical education took him to Central Washington University and Indiana University School of Music. John has held the position of Principal Trumpet in the New Mexico Symphony and the Mississippi Symphony. Currently, John is the principal trumpet of the San Diego Opera Orchestra, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and second trumpet with the San Diego Symphony. John has also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, and the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.

 Barry Toombs, horn, is a native of Galveston, Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany. Mr. Toombs was a member of the United States Navy Bands in Great Lakes, Illinois and San Diego, California. He is a member of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and has also performed with the Surnmerfest La Jolla, Starlight Musical Theatre, and the San Diego Symphony. Mr. Toombs has performed internationally with the Orquesta de Baja California, and most recently with the Hollywood Brass in Japan.

Bill Yeager, trombone, is a native of Seattle, Washington. He has a diverse musical background, both as a performer and educator. He is Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at San Diego State University and is a well-known studio/jazz trombonist performing on hundreds of records, films, TV shows, and commercials. Bill has also extensive symphony and chamber music performance experience and recordings. He received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from North Texas State University. He has performed with such artists as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughn, Mel Torme, and Dizzy Gillespie to name a few, and has toured throughout the world. He has played in nearly every big band in the Los Angeles/San Diego area, including long time associations with Louie Bellson and Les Brown. Before coming to San Diego, Bill was founder/director of the highly acclaimed Los Angeles Jazz Workshop, where he recorded three very successful albums and received a Grammy nomination.

 Brent Dufton, tuba, is a native of Canada. He received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory. Mr. Dutton has an amalgam of careers as composer, performer, teacher, arranger and conductor. He is currently Professor of Music at San Diego State University where he is head of Composition and Brass Studies. As a performer, he has performed throughout the world, holding positions with the Cleveland Orchestra, L'Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec, Grand Ballet Canadian, Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, and the San Diego Symphony. Mr. Dutton was the first tubist to do a solo recital tour of Canada. He has recorded for the Canadian Broadcast Corporation, Crystal Records, Kanda Records, Good Vibrations Records, and PBS.
