All exhibits are shown in the Robinson/Olsson Auditorium exhibit space at 1040 Thompson Ave., West Point, VA. Viewing is available on school days, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 4 PM, by entering through the West Point High School.

Friday, October 24, 2008 9 AM to 2 PM Oil Pastels taught by Dianna Detamore, Artist/VMFA at the West Point Library. Learn techniques for oil pastel drawing.
Nov. 4, 11, 18, 2008 (Tuesdays) 6 to 8 PM Colored Pencils taught by Sue Kurfees, Artist/Art Educator, at the West Point Library. Enjoy learning to use colored pencils.
Friday, November 14 9 AM to 2 PM Fabric Collage taught by Julia Pfaff, Artist/VMFA at the West Point Library. Create a contemporary design with appliqué and embroidery processes.
Friday, January 9, 2009 9 AM to 2 PM Encaustic Painting taught by Karen Elde, Artist/VMFA at the West Point Library. Ancient painting process using melted pigmented beeswax.
Friday, February 6, 2009 9 AM to 2 PM Expressive World of Collage taught by Mary Montague Sikes, Artist/Art Educator at the West Point Library. Experiment and combine variety of paper with water paint media.
Friday, March 20, 2009 9 AM to 2 PM Silk Painting taught by Mary Sweezy, Artist/VMFA at the West Point Library. Discover the French technique of “serti,” drawing with a liquid resist to create designs and patterns on silk.
Saturday, April 25, 2009 9 AM to 12 PM Floral Design taught by Joann Marino, Professional Florist at the West Point Business Center. Learn to make floral arrangement in your own basket or 8” glass vase. Create bows and corsages.
Saturday, May 2, 2009 9 AM to 12 PM Outdoor Watercolor Painting taught by Baylor and Gail Nichols, Artists, at the Nichols’ Studio in West Point, VA at 407 Lee Street. Paint with watercolor in nature.
Arts Alive Student Workshops:
Parents, grandparents, or guardians may sign up to take classes with their children. $10 per participant for each Saturday plus supplies.
Saturday, January 24, 2009 9 AM to 12 PM Cartooning (ages 7-12) taught by Julie Harris, Artist/Art Educator at the West Point Business Center. Learn to tell a story through cartooning.
Saturday, February 7, 2009 9 AM to 12 PM Learning to See (ages 8-12) taught by Michael Coleman, Artist, at the West Point Business Center. Acquire drawing skills by learning to see.
Saturday, February 21 and 28, 2009 9 AM to 12 PM both days Clay (ages 5-10) taught by Megan Countiss, Artist/Art Educator, at the West Point Business Center. Learn beginning clay sculpting techniques. Create and paint your own sculpture.
